Drake's Head Laceration

While at my parents at the beginning of this weekend, Drake had an accident. He and Addyson were running and she stepped on the back of his shoe. He flew forward and hit the corner of a table. I watched it happen and I knew immediately there would be blood, I just didn't know how deep it would be. This was one of those slow motion moments. I saw it all before it happened and my mama intuition told me we would be going to get stitches. I held a cold compress to his head and once we got to the medical center the bleeding had stopped. He was pretty upset & in shock. It was deep but not very big.

I felt kinda dumb once they said they would use liquid stitches; because I could have done that at home. But it gave me piece of mind having him checked out! 

He layed back and they washed out his cut, he cried, he screamed, he said "I'm gonna die!" But after they put the bandaid on he was over it. 

They gave him a few stickers, a few treats, and a card for free ice cream. He was so proud he asked me to take a picture of the card! He went on to say, "I got hurt, they glued me back together. Now I get ice cream and we can go to the movies!" I'm unsure why he thought we would go to the movies...I think he was trying to milk me for anything and everything, haha!

November 4, 2014 Addys visit to the ER

It was a normal night, dinner was cooking in the crockpot.  I was feeling dozy, snuggling Lex, waiting for Kade to get home, so I could go for a walk.  I heard a gagging noise, and shot up off the couch to find Addyson clearly choking on something.  Before I could get to her, I saw her swallow and immediately she started to bawl.  She choked some words out, I had her repeat herself, until I could understand her through her sobs.  She said, "I swallowed my money!"  In a panic, I called her pediatric center, no answer.  I then called the ER.  They asked if I knew what type of coin, I had no idea.  She said that it would be smart to have her x-rayed to make sure it was moving through just fine.  They then asked if she was in pain?  She hadn't stopped screaming and crying since, so I took a wild guess and said she was.  The nurse told me to come one in to have her checked out.  This was around 6.

It took me a half an hour to get everyone loaded in the car.  I couldn't get Addyson to stop screaming through that time.    I wasn't sure if she was terrified from almost choking, if the coin was hurting her, or both. I called and told Kade where to meet me, he was driving on the interstate, on his way home from work.  

Between meeting with Kade, and searching high and low for my missing wallet, were were on our way to the hospital.  Kade got in the truck and drove, I slumped in the passenger seat sobbing along with Addyson.  She soon fell asleep, and we reached the ER, it was a little after 7.

While we were getting checked in, Kade held Addy she was very lethargic and wouldn't answer any questions. We were finally pulled back into a room, just to wait for the x-ray technician.  After about a half hour, Addy perked up and was playing like her normal self.  The nurse brought in some crayons and coloring pages.  

Finally they brought in an x-ray machine.  Addyson doesn't do the best with strangers or strange places, I was worried she would have a fit with the x-ray.  She was so brave and did exactly what they needed her to do.  I was very proud of her.  

We were told that it looked like a small coin and that it was moving along like they would expect it.  I was relieved it wasn't a quarter, those don't come out on their own.  I was told what I figured they would tell me.  That it will pass on it's own and to watch for it.  If it didn't come on its own in 48 hours, if she has pain, or abnormal symptoms to bring her back.  

After, I couldn't help but feel so blessed on the outcome.  Things could have gone a different direction tonight.  

Now, Addyson likes to tell people that she has money in her tummy.  And she also advises people not to put money in their mouth :) She is trying to spread her wisdom.

38 weeks cooking #3

Yesterday was a little bit scary. I went for my normal weekly check in. The last three weeks I have measured 35 weeks with a measuring tape.  I measured 35 weeks once again, and my midwife became concerned with the size of the baby. She ordered an ultrasound, and as I waited I prepared my husband on the phone, letting him know they might start me today.

As soon as the ultrasound started, the technician asked me, "are we worried babies too big?" 

I let her know that the baby has been measuring small. 

She quieted my concern by telling me that the baby was actually measuring fairly large.

According to baby size, I would be measuring 40 weeks 4 days. knowing I go late I figure my due date will be pretty close to the actual date baby arrives. 

They told me there is a large margin of error this late in an ultrasound. They said that sizing can be up to 15 ounces off. But baby measured 9 lbs. 9 oz. according to the ultrasound. How they determine measurement is an average of head size, leg size, and torso I believe. Where are my kids have giant heads when born, I'm hoping baby really isn't 9 pounds. That the head is just throwing off measurements. But we will have to wait and see. 

I was relieved after the ultrasound, and I was happy I got to see the baby again.

New Glasses

Right after graduation, about 5 years ago, I got glasses.  Basically I was told that I didn't need them except for working on the computer or driving.  It was a really weak prescription, so I wasn't great at wearing my glasses, I didn't feel like I needed them much.  I purchased 7 pairs at http://www.zennioptical.com for less then 7 bucks a piece.  I got so many different ones because I didn't know what ones I would like the best.  Not being able to try on glasses is a problem, how will they look on your face? During harvest, I wore glasses a lot, and my kids kept getting a hold of them and broke 4 of my pairs, my favorite ones.  I new it was high time I got my eyes checked, but I kept putting it off I hate those dang exams.

On Halloween, I got my glasses ordered.  This time around I only ordered 3.  Sadly my favorite pair had been discontinued, so I was worried how these new ones would fit my face.  Today, I got them in the mail and tried them on.  Surprisingly, they are all very similar.  I am not sure I love them either, I guess I can always order more.  Their quality was never an issue, but I noticed that the quality has actually improved over the years, and they are still the same great $6.99 and up.

My eyes have gotten a lot worse and I need to be better at wearing glasses.  I am a little bit disoriented and hope it gets better.

So, if you are more on the frugal side, this is the best way to save money on glasses.  They have kids ones too, so those people with kids in glasses, buy a few so when they get lost you have a spare.   They start at 6.99, the black ones and the black and yellow ones were 6.99.  The pink and black ones were 14.99 if I recall.  You pay one flat rate shipping fee.  

Addyson 15 Month Check

Addyson had a well child checkup, and she needed more shots.  But we found she had a double ear infection, the doctor was so shocked that I didn't know.  SORRY, my kids are just awesomely never cranky.  Okay, she had been cranky, but she is cutting her last 4 teeth right now.  All four of her canine teeth are popping through, last year Drake was just barley getting teeth and wasn't even walking.  CRAZY.

Anyway, we have to go back in to get shots later.  Most of the time we just give them shots anyway, even when they are sick, but today the Doc didn't want to.  So fine, I will drive back in to town in a week or so.

  She weighed in at 21 pounds 9 ounces.  She is 31 inches tall.  They didn't write down her head, but it is plenty big.

Addyson is so tall and slender, wearing 12-18 month clothes, even though they fall off her waist.  She can wear smaller shirts, but those legs just go on and on.

She of course is an awesome walker now, and she goes up and down stairs. She loves food, and is a great eater, there isn't anything she wont eat.  That also is a negative, because I find her chewing on all sorts of things.  I even found a small wrapper in her diaper the other day.  She is such a good sleeper, she sleeps about 8-10 hrs a night with a long 2-3 hour nap every day.  If she doesn't get her nap, she falls asleep anyway.

She loves baby dolls, she holds them and kisses them.  And if she sees babies at church or when I watch kids she wants to hold them and kiss them.

My Addy baby, is talking like mad.  She babbles a ton and loves to sing and scream.  She says no, mama, dada, yummy, bottle, please, up, down, gogo (for four wheeler), doggy, she barks, Drake, and mimics almost any word you say.  Her grandmother tried to get her to say spaghetti, well I guess I shouldn't tell people she mimics every word.  She also likes to point and grunt to things she wants.

She does this thing where she will find a piece of clothing and wrap it around her neck like a scarf.  She is really trying to put the cloths on, but has no idea how. So I find she picks out cloths in her room and tries to put them on.

I would really love to do a photo shoot with both my kids, since they have changed so much.  They are so active and wont look at me that I have to have help...and getting  Kade to help with pictures is a chore.  He is no fan either of the camera.  So maybe I will stop making excuses and do it one of these days.

Addyson at 4 Months

 We went to the Dr a couple days ago for Addyson's 4 month appointment.  She didn't even cry when she got her shots, but just like every other time, she is now sick.  She runs a fever, has a runny nose, and gooey eyes.  And it lasts for about a week...I hope this sick baby thing ends soon.

Anyway, my kids seem to be so much alike, in looks and now even size.  I thought Addyson was way bigger then Drake, but I guess I was wrong.  Addyson is now 14 pounds 4 ounces, Drake was 14 pounds 2 ounces.  Addyson is 25 inches long, Drake was 25.25 inches long.  Addyson's head is 17 inches, Drake's was 16.25.  Really, I thought Addyson was such a chunk and that Drake was tiny compared, but it looks like they are more alike then I thought.  It is fun to see.  But already they have such different personality.

Addyson loves to talk.  I have a clip that shows her gabbing away, clear at the end of the post.  She already loves to eat.  I got the go ahead to feed her rice, but the pediatrician said to wait on other foods, they say the longer you wait the less likely to have allergies.  She already is eating more then Drake did at this age.  She smiles a ton, but Drake did too.  Babies laughing is one of my favorite things, and I am glad she laughs for me.  She still wakes once during the night to feed, but I am okay with snuggling her even more.  She is starting to know people, and really likes certain familiar people "daddy".  Even though she smiles more at her dad, she has her fits where no one else but mom will do...I think that goes along with nursing though.  Kade hates when she only wants me, I secretly love being so loved...

She loves her hands, and she will always suck on them.  She also is so happy, I am a lucky mama having two happy kids.  Her most favorite thing is when you stand her up, but she really likes to look around, so you have to face her away.  She is such a sweet girl.  LOVE YOU ADDY JO!
